about
A live acoustic version of 'Marjorie' from our debut album 'deltas', originally recorded for NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2017. We're re-releasing this on April 4, 2021 — what would have been Marjorie's 96th birthday.
The song was inspired by the disappearance of USAF Flight 2469 in 1950 (bit.ly/2juz78q). Our singer's grandfather was one of 44 passengers on board. The plane was never found.
be the light in the garden.
be the wind at my feet.
I thought I heard you in the morning.
I thought I caught your voice calling.
I wring my hands, I wait.
I have lost my way.
after we parted, I got lost in the garden.
where I wander, and falter,
where I dream of you often
in the cold light of always
through the bent march of my days.
and I'll leave the light on, through the darkest of darkness.
I bend my thoughts so they surround you,
I curl my prayers around your name.
I wring my hands, I wait.
I have lost my way.
'cause after you parted, I got lost in the garden.
where I wander, and falter,
where I think of you often
in the cold light of always,
through the bent march of my days,
where i'll leave a light on, through the darkest of darkness.
but even as I go,
before I even know,
the ripples of your days
push out and change our shape.
when the plane crashed, did you feel it?
did you think of me only?
when the snow fell upon you, did you think of our baby?
as the night came, did you know that we'd never find you?
so I leave the light on, through the darkest of darkness.
